With a keen focus on sustainability, we are determined to achieve a reduction of our carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions by utilizing a plant-based biocomposite matrix whenever possible in place of petroleum-derived plastics.
The Arvensis team has over 30 years experience designing and manufacturing PCR plates for some of the largest companies in the life sciences marketplace. We understand the demanding requirements of the scientists that need the best possible PCR consumables. In developing our new B-Frame BIOCOMPOSITE PCR plates, we set out to exceed the quality and performance expectations of our customers, while at the same time reducing the amount of petroleum-derived plastics used in the production of these products.
Our 2-component B-Frame BIOCOMPOSITE PCR plates achieve all of these objectives.
The frame is produced using a plant-derived biocomposite matrix designed to provide a rigid structure for the reaction wells. The frame material remains dimensionally stable during thermal cycling, which facilitates reliable robotic handling, and ensures that the seal to each well is not compromised during thermal cycling, thus preventing sample evaporation. This is critical to your work. Yet with our sustainably-sourced biocomposite material, we are able to reduce the amount of plastic used to manufacture the plates by 43 - 51%, depending on the frame style. This is a significant reduction in the use of plastic. Every little bit helps!
Your PCR protocols are important to your work, and you need to be sure that changing to our B-Frame BIOCOMPOSITE plates does not compromise the results. PCR takes place in the reaction well. This is why we are using a time-proven medical-grade polypropylene to produce the 96 thin-walled reaction wells. This material is biocompatible and has an inert low-binding surface. What this means is you don't have to worry about any problems with your PCR performance.
We have a rigorous quality program to ensure our plates adhere to all of our specifications and more importantly, meet your expectations. The quality team performs several visual inspections throughout the manufacturing process to ensure there are no defects. We also measure several critical areas for conformance to our dimensional requirements. Every plate undergoes a sensitive electronic well-integrity test to ensure there are no holes in the well. That means every single well of every plate has been checked for leaks before being packaged. We also perform a range of additional tests to check for plate and well integrity, and a PCR evaporation test to ensure our plates do not leak after heat-sealing. Finally, we perform a fluorometric detection assay to ensure there is no DNase or RNase contamination, and a quantitative PCR test to ensure our products are free from detectable human genomic DNA and free from PCR inhibitors.
All of our PCR plates are certified free from DNase, RNase, nucleases and human gDNA.
Our B-Frame BIOCOMPOSITE PCR plates directly reduce the amount of plastic used in the manufacturing process. This results in real and measurable differences, but that's not all. The plant-derived material is lighter in weight than the plastic it is replacing. This means a reduction in the overall weight for transporting our plates from the manufacturing site to your laboratory.
Whether by sea, air, or truck, a pallet of our B-Frame plates weigh approximately 10% less than the same number of plates manufactured entirely from petroleum-derived plastics. Less weight for a given volume means less fuel burned for transportation. Although we can't quantify the specific reduction in fuel consumed for transporting a single pallet of PCR plates, we know that every little bit helps reduce our carbon footprint.
